WELCOME TO MS. VARGAS’ 4TH GRADE CLASS PAGE!
April 2012
Welcome back from Spring Break everybody! We’ve had a great first week and are back in the swing of things. Lots to look forward to as we enter the 2nd half of the month including, but not limited to: The Great Mail Race, Our Big Spring Tour, Spring Cleaning Drive to benefit the Hollywood Sunset Free Clinic (we got rained out on Friday and so we’ll be helping Student Council transport all our donations during a small walking trip this week), and much, much more! We’ve got our big Quarter 3 Math assessment this week and I’m very optimistic that my students will do well on this test. Please continue to monitor your child’s homework completion because this independent practice will help them review important concepts covered in class.
January 2012
Happy New Year to all! This month has come and gone so fast. It’s hard to believe that it’s almost February already. There has been some improvement in my student’s completing their homework, but there are still quite a few that are not doing it. Parents, please note that every day your child should have at least 2 math assignments and a reading assignment. Everyday your child is expected to practice multiplication facts.
Congratulations to Andrew Flores and Bryan Rodriguez for acing their spelling test on the 27th. Students who are in the Treasures Reading Program should be taking their spelling tests home on Fridays to share with you. Please ask to see them so you know how your child is doing in spelling.
Also, congratualtions to Aileen Aguilar and Bryan Rodriguez for being students of the month. Other past students of the month are: Karina Corona, Isaac Bernaola, Aylin Mota, and Grisly Perez.
December 2011
A heads up to parents that report cards come out this month. They will be sent home with your child on the 9th of December. Please take time to review your child’s grades and speak with him or her about how they think they performed for the first quarter. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.
November 2011
Wow! Where did November go? We have been very busy learning so much that it’s almost gone! Lots of Periodic Assessments occurred in November including Math, Literacy and Science! We are in the midst of a new Life Science Unit where Mr. Moreno and I are team teaching. This means that his students come to me for Earth Science and my students go to him for Life Science.
October 2011
I want to thank everybody for showing up to our conferences this month. It was a pleasure sitting down with parents and students and coming up with goals to help my students improve and succeed.
During our conferences, I mentioned a website called Kahn Academy that could help students review math concepts. Please have your children visit http://www.khanacademy.org/ to review important math concepts such as: place-value, addition with regrouping, subtraction with regrouping, and order of operations.
If you have any questions or concerns about your child, please feel free to contact me either through email (rvarga3@lausd.net) or call the school at 323 661 2125.
