Born and raised in Lima, Perú, Ms. Albela-Silver received her Bachelor’s degree in Communication Sciences from the Universidad de Lima. In her hometown, she worked for a non-governmental organization which helped improve the quality of life for women in the shantytowns.
When she moved to Los Angeles, she received her California Teaching Credential through the LAUSD’s District Intern program. She has been with the District since 1996, where she started teaching Adult ESL classes. The following year, she taught bilingual First Grade, and immediately fell in love with elementaryschool. “I found my calling in teaching at the early stages of language development,” she says.
A native in Spanish, she is proficient in English and Portuguese, and has basic knowledge of French and Italian. She also received a Certificate in Creative Writing from UCLA. When she is not teaching, she enjoys travel, books, and photography.
