José Carrillo, Third Grade

Mr. Carillo was born in Mérida, Yucatan, in Mexico, and came to the US in 1979 when he was six years old.

He attended East Los Angeles College where he received his AA, then received his Bachelor of Arts in Political Science and History from Macalester College.  He received his teaching credentials from Cal State Los Angeles.  While in college, he was a student/athelete and participated in collegiate football.

Mr. Carillo has been teaching at Micheltorena for fifteen years, and has taught second and third grades.  His career goal is to become a principal in his next ten years.

He loves teaching because “I love working with kids.  They keep me young, but make me old!”

Mr. Carillo is an avid guitar player who volunteers his time teaching guitar after school at Micheltorena, and is a frequent guest musician at school concerts.  He also enjoys tennis, chess, and reading the newspaper.
